Weekend Bike Ride With Kennedy July 11th 2010!

My buddy Kennedy & I always go bike riding for an afternoon each weekend. In addition to the mini-work-out we get from cycling the city, we explore all the local shops & cafes along our way. I thought it might be a neat little blog thing to tell you about my adventures each weekend, so any #yeg readers will get to see (and reccommend!) what's cool in the city, and any stalkers will know the locations I frequent.

Today we went to...

1. Who Cares (11222 Jasper Avenue)
This is a local high-end clothing boutique that stocks my favorites in Betsey Johnson, Michael Kors, and William Rast -- essentially a bunch of stuff I can't really afford. HOWEVER, their sales ROCK. It is not uncommon to find "buy one, get one free" events (seriously! for designer wear!) or 50% sales. Today I didn't have any cash to spend, so I mostly hugged Kersh sweaters while Ken tried on dresses -- but I do intend to come back for that Kersh sweater! And I'll probably get another top or skirt with it, given the abundance of BOGO!

2. Shades of Grey (10116 124 Street)
This afternoon was my first visit to this new shop. GORGEOUS stuff inside. We found success and Kennedy bought a dress. I entered a draw for a $250 gift card (and know exactly the dress I'll buy if I win). The staff was super friendly & helpful, and I'm excited to see what they stock as they grow. They opened mere weeks ago, so I feel "cool" getting to check them out so early. There was some wonderful jewelry I'll be back for, and we were also told there's a big shipment of dresses expected the next few weeks! The official Grand Opening will be held August 28th -- are you going to be there? I think I will!

3. Duchess Bakeshop (10720 124 Street)
Do I even need to say it? This small cafe climbed to irreplaceable Edmonton favorite almost instantly. I know I love it! I had a latte, key lime tart (yes, a whole one -- I can't resist!) and bought a bag of meringue treats to take home. Managed to get a table, which was lucky since they are always busy! Friendly, happy service as always, and we left as friendly, happy customers =)

And that's it! Not as much adventure as some of our bike trips, but we were limited by it being Sunday today. Many stores along 124th were closed, so there was a lot of window peeking rather than going in and poking around. Oh well! We had fun anyway, and Kennedy did succeed at finding a dress. We rode home along the river valley, so the view was great. I'll bring a camera to capture our fun next time!

  2. You will love it jolie! Everything is excellent! Only local place I know where the pastries actually taste authentically French.
