In The Lake O' Suck Without a Paddle

Maybe it's the job market, or maybe it's just me, but I can't find a job anywhere. I'm not sure if I'm over-qualified, or under. I don't know if my availability is poor. I realize I lack experience in an office setting or retail, but when I submit a resume to a business, it falls into a black hole. No one calls me back. I am not fit even for consideration as a cafe barista, real estate office cleaner, bilingual nanny, or clinical research assistant.

I've been seeking part-time employment to supplement my laughable summer research student pay for a month, and I have had no success whatsoever. It's the same story for both @shmaine and the boyfriend, so while it's reassuring to all be in the same boat, its a dingy in the Lake o' Suck to be sure.

Is there a lifeguard out there or what?

I know this situation is probably temporary. At worst I just have to wait it out until September, and then I can resume tutoring. It's just getting there that's painful. I had the benefit of growing up in an Alberta oil-boom, where they took anyone for any job -- including unexperienced 15yro highschool students. Jobs were everywhere. I received a call-back for every resume I handed in, was hired at every interview, and never worried that it would ever end.

I'm trying to avoid the irony that now, more educated & experienced than ever, I'm nothing short of unemployable. If you know somebody, or know somebody that knows somebody, tell them there is a desperate university student in need.
