Pass Go, Collect $2000 (in debt)

I FINALLY found some free time to take the French placement test for the university so I could figure out where I'm at and hopefully enroll in a course for this coming year. I probably should have done this placement exercise right after I got back from Quebec, when I still had a vague sense of the language, as opposed to now.. some flailing ensued. It hurt a bit, those conjugations. What is imparfait, anyway? Futur simple? I understand what's being said, that should be enough.

Anyway, I got placed where I wanted (no introductory classes! Yay!) but the course is currently full. I put myself on the waitlist but I'm not sure if I can be optimistic. Actually, I'm not even sure I can even take it, since I'll be a graduate student in the Faculty of Science and this is an undergrad Arts course. I might even feel a little guilty if my enrollment deprives a French major from required credits.

I'll just wait & see!

I was approved for some student loan money I don't really want to accept. I only applied because in the past, I've received $3000 each year in low-income grants. Not sure if this was restricted to undergrad or it's absence was part of getting dinged for having too many assets this year (apparently you're not supposed to use money-for-school as money-for-investments, who knew?), but I wasn't offered it this time around. Instead I just got $2000 to be added to my already staggering student debt total. Um, thanks but no thanks. My ideas of what to do with the extra funding:

1) bury it in my loan-payback savings account (oh yes, I have one explicitly for this purpose) where it can remain untouched (and earning some interest with the rest of my gold) until I am an MSc. graduate.
2) buy a MacBook. Am I the only person that got through university without a laptop?
3) ... and an iPad. (kidding! sort of)
4) actually use it to serve it's purpose and put it towards my education, so my stipend cheques will be less marred by deductions for tuition during the academic year.
5) give it right back to the government so I don't have to look at any gigantamous totals on my statements.

Thoughts? My current plan is #1, but I'm going to mull it over until September.

So much school talk for mid-summer! Shame on me!
