The Loss Prevention department at my bank said my debit card was probably copied, and then my pin was guessed by whoever stole it. They suggested that one of the ways I can prevent debit card fraud is to change my pin every 90 days. Frankly, I'm so annoyed I'm thinking of simply not using my debit card at all and switching entirely to cash. I never use any bank machines other than those at my own bank, and only shop at legitimate businesses, so I'm not even sure how my info even got compromised. I've told @YEGmamaMD that identity theft was THE crime I just 100% expected to endure in my lifetime (and I still do, I'm sure this won't be the last incidence ever) but this expectation didn't really make the actual ordeal easier. I panicked and changed passwords & pins to everything, and now they're all different and new I probably won't even be able to log into my own accounts. Sigh.
So, now that I get to work three days instead of one, do you think I can justify spending one day's earnings on red leather ballet flats from Townshoes?

I'm going to have to prioritize my back-to-school want list soon because it's getting pretty lengthly (and includes a MacBook Pro).
My niece had her debit card copied and the pin was stolen by a secret overhead cam. Her account was wiped out. Though she'd narrowed it down to two or three businesses, the police would not tell her which one it was. She reasoned 'why would you want me to keep going back to a place that potentially robbed me' but they stood firm.
ReplyDeleteHope things work out quickly for you.
Oh no! Do you want to change your prediction from 3 times in your lifetime? Glad you got your cashola back.
