Day Zero, Goal #29

Ok, so I kind of cheated with this DayZero goal. I don't own my own home by myself, the boyfriend & I own it together. And I have a feeling that once school is over and he's working full-time and I'm collecting a miniature grad student stipend, he's probably going to shoulder the bulk of the mortgage. But it still counts, right? It's the best I can get in the time my DayZero list applies to, and furthermore, why the hell would I need to own my own home by myself if I'm living with my significant other?

Anyway, it's a gorgeous 4th floor downtown apartment. There's high ceilings and lots of windows. We have a dishwasher (OH MY GOD) and insuite laundry. WE HAVE A FIREPLACE. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a steal-of-a-deal as far as central property goes. And we live above a friend from advanced organic chemistry, who is now in medical school, which is about the same as having a personal on-call physician, right? (kidding!)

I have not taken pictures yet, but will. We move in May 1. In the meantime, we have to get through final exams, and are planning on changing the carpet in the new place to hardwood, painting the walls, and installing new curtains + light fixtures. A lone bachelor lived there previous to us, so the decor is not up to par with my aesthetic tastes. Our couches are too large to fit in the new livingroom, so that means NEW FURNITURE (!!!) for which I am so, so excited. And since it's a new start, we're also getting new office desk + chairs, a new kitchen table + chairs, some bar stools and various other shelving & storage I will insist on.
In short, we will be very broke but oh-so-comfortable & stylish =)

The train will be a whopping 5 blocks closer walk, and there is a Starbucks practically outside our door. We have a balcony for the first time ever, which means we will get to enjoy barbequing and sunshine FINALLY.

It's pretty much the perfect home for us. I am thrilled!

I have made some changes to my DayZero list, deleting goals (ie. "get a dog") and adding others (things I want to do in my upcoming visit to Montreal!). I'm still short a few to the ultimate 101, but I'm sure I think of something before the end. There's still more than enough to keep me motivated, so that's all I can really ask for!
