I settled on donating blood. In addition to blood donation being a fast, free, easy, and HELPFUL, the University of Alberta is participating in the Blood 101 challenge and is trying to reach 1200 pints donated by the end of the month! I made sure to sign the form in the lobby after I donated to help them get there. I think they said we won last year or something, and before I went in, already had just over 700 pints! In any case, I bought 2 cupcakes from the group promoting the challenge on campus, so actually showing up to donate as promised was the least I could do.
Now, the only downside to donating blood was how guilty I felt about not doing it as often as I can. It really took nothing out of my day, and they gave me Cookies by George (my personal favorite) at the end. So, I encourage those of you young, healthy, HIV-free, un-recently-tattooed, not-much-traveled people like myself to GO AND GIVE BLOOD. It's IMPORTANT and it's desperately needed. I think I will definitely be back at the 56-day mark to donate once more (too bad the Blood 101 challenge will be over by then!).
